Omni 3.0: Changes in Schedule, Location, and Curriculum
A new era of movement, community, and clarity begins August 2025
Back in June, we shared our initial proposal for Omni 3.0—a reimagining of how our school operates, grows, and serves the community. We invited feedback from our students, alumni, and extended network. The response was powerful. We heard your gratitude, your questions, and your concerns—and we took them seriously.
Today, we’re ready to share the final plan.
If you’re new to Omni: we’re a social dance school in Oakland, CA, known for our structured training, welcoming culture, and multi-style programming. We’ve grown rapidly since our 2022 founding, but we’ve also faced hard truths about sustainability—financially, organizationally, and emotionally.
Omni 3.0 is our response: a more focused, values-aligned, and stable version of the school we’ve been building together.
What’s Changing (and What’s Staying)
🧭 1. Curriculum + Class Structure
We are simplifying and clarifying our class structure across all programs.
Omni will offer up to 4 Levels of content with varying numbers of monthly modules as presented above.
A free monthly community class will be offered the week before the beginning of each monthly cycle (typically Week 4). This class will be geared towards complete beginners and feed into Level 1.
What Levels will be available starting August?
OmniZouk → 4 Levels
OmniSwing → 3 Levels
OmniBachata → 2 Levels
What classes can I drop in for?
Weeks 1 and 2 of any Level 1 module
Any week of any module you have taken previously
Classes you are given special exemption for (email us to ask for one).
What is the class schedule format?
Classes remain 60 minutes
Two class blocks per night, separated by a 15-minute break
🧪 2. Assessments → Badge-Based Progression
We’re saying goodbye to the outdated "you are Level 2" model.
Instead, you’ll earn badges—short, skill-specific achievements (e.g., timing, frame, single leg spins)—that unlock access to specific modules. Think of it like college:
Just because you qualify for upper-division math doesn’t mean you’ve met the prereqs for upper-division philosophy.
This means:
No more level-wide assessments
Modules are unlocked based on badge prerequisites, not what “level” you’re in
Students may be eligible for certain higher modules (e.g., Level 4 technique) while still working on foundational modules in other areas (e.g., Level 3 musicality)
This allows for:
Precise, skill-based advancement
Personalized growth paths
Deeper mastery before moving on
Do I need to track my own badges?
No. We are building a live database in August that will hold all information regarding what badges exist, what prerequisite badges are required for each module, and the badges that students have or do not have at any moment.
🌱 3. A New Home: The Oak Grove
Thanks to early contributions to our fundraising campaign, we’re officially moving to The Oak Grove—a stunning, mission-aligned venue in Oakland dedicated to healing, movement, and the arts.
Starting in August, Omni programming at Oak Grove will include:
Progressive Classes in Swing (Tues), Bachata (Wed), and Zouk (Thurs)
Weekly Socials after Class – Each class night will now end with a full-fledged social dance, open to all and marketed as a standalone event. Get ready to invite your friends to some of the best social dancing in the East Bay—every week.
A Monthly Multi-Style Social, now rebranded as The Omniverse: Oakland’s Multi-Style Dance Party.
The August edition of Omniverse will be on August 23, featuring Zouk, Urban Kiz, and Bachata rooms—and it will double as our official Omni 3.0 Launch Party.
We’ll also be sharing more information soon about updates to our membership system—stay tuned!
We’ll be updating Omni’s New Location Guide, which includes everything you need to know about getting to The Oak Grove. This guide will be revised before classes next week to reflect our new location.
⏸️ 4. Programs We’re Pausing
To stay focused and sustainable, we’re pausing the following programs for now:
ZoukLounge
OmniKiz
Sunset Swing
OmniTango
We love each of these offerings and hope to revive them in a more resourced future.
These changes reflect a core truth: More isn’t always better.
Omni 3.0 is about doing fewer things, better—and creating a stable foundation for joy, growth, and excellence in social dance.
We’re beyond grateful to the students, instructors, and supporters who’ve helped shape this vision. Your feedback shaped every major decision here.
Let’s keep building this together.
With purpose and love,
– Imaan + The Omni Team
